TEXTBOOKS ON RESERVES

Students can check out textbooks from the library through our Textbooks on Reserve program for four hours at a time. Request your assigned books be placed on reserve using the Purchase Request Form. Under Request Type, select Course Reserves.

These requests should be submitted prior to the start of the semester and can take several weeks to fulfill. Instructors can also provide physical textbooks for reserve checkouts (we appreciate 1-2 copies).

Contact Xandra Gradine with questions, reserves@humboldt.edu.

In addition, if you are looking for Open Educational Resources, free textbooks online, in lieu of expensive textbooks, please contact oer@humboldt.edu.

RESOURCE SHARING

You can use Resource Sharing to request materials not in the CPH Library collections or scans of chapters and other materials. Resource Sharing, also known as Interlibrary Loan (ILL), is a system by which librarians around the world share their materials.

Do you just need a few chapters of a book for your course? Faculty can request scans of chapters for their courses and work with the Accessibility Resource Center (ARC) to ensure accessibility before uploading to Canvas. Due to copyright, there are limitations on the number of chapters Resource Sharing can process, so one request from a faculty member is preferable to individual requests from students. Whenever possible, please submit these requests prior to the start of the semester to ensure the materials are available for your course.

Once you’ve submitted a request, library staff will determine the most efficient way to obtain the materials. You'll be notified via email when your request is available. Returning materials on time and in good condition ensures that the lending libraries will continue to share materials.

Please contact us if you have any questions at resourcesharing@humboldt.edu.

PURCHASE REQUESTS

You can submit a Purchase Request Form for new collection requests (including Video). Under Request Type, select Main Collection. New purchases, digitization for Panopto, and making these materials accessible takes time, so please plan ahead.

Reserve items requests can be submitted on the same form. Under Request Type, select Course Reserves.

Typically, you will receive a response email within one week regarding your request. Please note that purchase requests are subject to approval.
