Instruction, Workshops, Research

INSTRUCTION REQUESTS

I'm happy to work with you to design in-person or virtual instruction/workshops that are tailored to the research assignment(s) in your class. We can schedule time in a computer lab in the library or I can visit your class to work with students on developing their research topics; finding, evaluating, and engaging with sources; and citation.

You can email me to schedule a planning session or fill out the Library Instruction and Librarian Collaboration Request. Please submit your requests at least two weeks in advance.

IN-PERSON SKILLSHOPS

Did you know that SkillShops can be facilitated by faculty, staff, and/or students? In-Person SkillShops, 50-minute co-curricular workshops, will begin soon and can still be proposed. The calendar is updated throughout the semester, so encourage students to check the calendar regularly for new workshops.

SkillShops Facilitator Toolkit

Propose a SkillShop. Submit your proposal at least three (3) weeks in advance. This will help ensure that we can make your room reservation and provide to promote your workshop.

ONLINE SKILLSHOPS

Online SkillShops are Canvas modules that can be embedded into your courses. Take a look and see where they might fit in your curriculum. They can be a great way to introduce or reinforce research and writing skills when needed throughout the semester and can be completed at the students' own pace. Some of the relevant Canvas SkillShops offered:

If you plan to assign one of the SkillShops in your course, please review the guide on Integrating Canvas SkillShops into Your Course for more information. Consider notifying librarians through skillshops@humboldt.edu that there will be an influx of assignments to process, keeping in mind that Librarians process each assignment and offer feedback to students to empower them to use these skills.

RESEARCH CONSULTATIONS

Faculty, staff, and students can book a research appointment with me at their convenience for assistance with research projects. We can meet in-person or via Zoom to discuss.
