New Gear: 2019 Oculus Go

Line drawing of Oculus Go headset.

The Oculus Go is a standalone VR headset and controller you can check out to explore VR and 360 photos/videos. To use the headset, you just need to download the smartphone app (Google Play or iPhone App Store) and set up an Oculus account (you can use a Facebook account if you already have one). You will be prompted to do both of these when you first use the Oculus Go headset.

What you need to get started

The headset is fairly simple but still requires a few important considerations:

  • Charge the headset via the USB cable and wall adapter.
  • The controller requires a AA battery (included).
  • A smartphone with the Oculus Go iOS or Android app is required to set up and run the headset.
  • A WiFi connection is needed for setup and app downloads

New Gear: 2019 Lenovo Mirage Solo

Line drawing of Lenovo Mirage Solo

The Lenovo Mirage Solo is a standalone VR headset and controller you can check out to explore VR and 360 photos/videos. The headset is great for people who don't have a smartphone to view content with the Google Cardboard viewers. To use the headset, you just need to login with your Google account (you can use your HSU account or a personal account).

What you need to get started

The headset is fairly simple but still requires a few important considerations:

  • Charge the headset and controller via the USB cable and wall adapter.
  • Headphones - if you don’t have your own, borrow a pair from us (4-hr use only)!
  • A WiFi connection is needed for setup and app downloads.
  • Must be 13 years or older.

Returning the headset

Before you return the headset, perform a factory reset to remove your personal info and settings. Resetting the device will erase all of the data saved to the device, so do not complete this step until you are ready to return it to the Library. On your controller, press the Daydream button. At the top right corner, select Settings and then All settings. At the bottom, select System and then Reset options and then Factory data reset
