It is recommended that you start your search in a general database, which is likely to cover most of the topics that you might choose for your speeches. We recommend:

  • Academic Search Premier. Access to more than 13,000 scholarly journals and popular magazines in all academic disciplines from 1975 to the present.

For choosing a topic, reading helpful overview summaries of pressing world topics, and prepared pro/con arguments by leading authorities in their fields, we recommend:

  • CQ Researcher. Indexes Provides reports on a variety of topics and current events. Reports include abstracts, background info, current situation, outlook, chronology, pro/con debates, and bibliography.

Your professor may also ask you consult these databases for statistics, literature, reports, and current news:

  • California Newspapers (NewsBank)
  • ProQuest Newsstand
