VR at Cal Poly Humboldt

The Cal Poly Humboldt Library is your spot to delve into Virtual Reality! We have headsets that you can borrow and use at home or anywhere you have a WiFi signal and we have the VR Station, where you can try it out and work on the computer to develop your own VR experience with the Unity game engine.

VR Station

Located outside the Makerspace on the second floor of the library (room 205), the VR Station has 3D sculpture building apps and games already loaded as well as the ChimeraX chemistry app for molecular visualization.

Meta Quest 3

The Meta Quest 3 provides the same full-featured VR experiences as the previous Quest headsets, but also has augmented reality (AR) built in. This headset is entirely standalone and can be checked out for up to 72 hours. It requires a smartphone to connect the device to WiFi.

A Facebook account is required. If you do not want to have a Facebook account to maintain your privacy, you can set all of the privacy settings on your account so that only you can see or find yourself. Go to Privacy Settings and set everything as strict as possible ("Only me" or "Friends" in most cases) and set your Profile and Tagging Settings to "Only me." For more information, see the Techlicious article The Complete Guide to Facebook Privacy Settings and Facebook's How can I adjust my Facebook privacy settings?

Glasses Wearers

  • The Meta Quest 3 has a built-in spacer for glasses. To expand the spacer, press and hold the eye-relief buttons next to the lenses and pull backward (or push forward) on the silicon facial interface. Repeat for both sides. The white indicator dot below each button shows how expanded or collapsed the facial interface is.

The Oculus Go is a standalone VR headset and controller you can check out to explore VR and 360 photos/videos.
