To cite a bill, you will need information including the bill number, and the year it was passed. Below is the format for citing a bill from either chamber of Congress:
Title [if relevant], H.R. or S. bill/resolution number, ### Cong. (Year). URL
An example of what this would look like is:
Mental Health on Campus Improvement Act, H.R. 1100, 113th Cong. (2013). https://www.congress.gov/bill/113th-congress/house-bill/1100
The Cal Poly Humboldt Library owns a physical copy of The Bluebook: A Uniform System of Citation. This guide focuses on citing legal resources. If interested, you are welcome to consult this resource if it is not currently checked out from the library.
The following is the format for citing a scholarly article using APA format. For additional information, visit the Purdue Owl website:
Author, A. A., Author, B. B., & Author, C. C. (Year). Title of article. Title of Periodical, volume number(issue number), pages. https://doi.org/xx.xxx/yyyy
Databases and catalogs will often provide a citation for scholarly articles. Look for the words citation or cite when you locate an article you want to use. You will likely have the option to select an APA citation for the article. Check to make sure that the provided citation is formatted correctly. Don't just copy and paste the citation onto your assignment without checking it for accuracy.
