Integrating Library Resources Into Your Canvas Course

Overview

You can embed videos into your Canvas course. To do this, complete the following steps:

Step 1: Click on the Plus icon to the right of the title of your module.

Step 2: Click on the drop-down menu box on the screen that comes up. Select Add External URL.

Step 3: Enter the URL of the video that you wish to link to.  Be sure to give the video a title in the Page Name field, one that makes it easily identifiable. Ex: Film - 2001: A Space Odyssey

Step 4: Click on the Add Item green rectangle. Your screen should look like this.

Library Video Resources

The HSU Library offers a number of video resources to you and your students. The following list contains links to and descriptions of some of these resources.

HSU Catalog: The library contains several thousand films on video in DVD and VHS formats, as well as videos that can be streamed from online sources.  When you click on this link, go to the dropdown menu next to location and select electronic video. Enter your search term and choose the source you wish to embed into your course.

Humboldt Digital Scholar: This online resource contains videos of speakers and events that took place here at HSU.

DocuSeek2: This database provides documentary and social issues films.

Swank Digital Campus: This online database contains feature-length films. 

Kanopy: Streaming service for documentary films
