The library has research guides that provide information and resources for specific subjects and general topics. These resources include books, peer-reviewed journal articles in library databases, and much more. Follow the instructions outlined in the box to the right to locate and select the research guides you want for your course.
Step 1: Click on the Plus icon to the right of the title of your module.
Step 2: Click on the drop-down menu box on the screen that comes up. Select Add External URL.
Step 3: Enter the URL of the research guide that you wish to insert. Be sure to give the guide a title in the Page Name field.
Step 4: Click on the Add Item green rectangle.
Your screen should look like this. The resource will show up when your students click on the link. If the resource does not show up, verify that you have the correct URL.
To locate a research guide complete the following steps:
Step 1: Go to the HSU Library website library http://library.humboldt.edu/
Step 2: Hover your mouse over the Research Help tab near the top of the page. Select Research Guides from the dropdown menu.
Step 3: You will be directed to a page of research guides organized by discipline. Click on the guide that corresponds to your discipline.
Step 4: You can copy the URL of the homepage, or you can select the URL of a specific tab within the guide depending on your needs or preferences. For example, if your course requires students to locate peer-reviewed articles from library databases on a frequent basis then you may consider making a direct link to the Finding Articles tab.
In addition to guides that provide resources for a particular discipline, other guides have been set up to provide information on topics including citation help, the library's Digital Media Lab, and using the Zotero citation manager. To place one of these guides into your course, follow steps 1-5 outlined in the center of the page.
